Description:

Interrogatories, Depositions taken at York 10 Aug 7 Geo 3, 1767. John Grimston, Esq., v. Walter Hardwick, gent. Depositions for Plaintiff. Concerning the validity etc. of the last Will and Testament of Henry Medley, late of Little Smeaton (York), Esq., Vice Admiral of the Blue Squadron of His Majesty's Fleet, and Commander in Chief of His Majesty's ships and vessels employed in the Mediterranean (a copy of which is subjoined dated 2 aug 1747). The Testator is said to have died at the houe of General Paterson at Savona in Italy on the 5 Aug 1747 - In the said Will mention is made of the following persons and property, vizt. John Kilvington of Acomb (York), Esq., (Testator's nephew), Mrs Dorothy Kilvington of the City of York (Testator's niece), Mrs Jane Kilvington (daughter of said John Kilvington), Mrs Jane Styles (Testator's niece), Mrs Mary Rogers of Gosport (Southampton) to whom Testator leaves twenty pounds a year provided she delivers up or causes to be delivered up to this Executor the following effects belonging to him and now in her possession. That is to say a piece of green damask designed for the furniture of a room containing about sixty yards of green velvet housing for a horse emboidered with gold, two leapard skins, "my picture, a diamond ring given me by Lady Miller, a silver tea kettle and lamp, a pair of large pistols mounted with silver, my library of books, four marble tables and two Turkey carpets and in case she refuses to deliver up to My Executor the things above mentioned I do hereby make null and void the said annuity of twenty pounds and direct that my estate be not charged therewith," - Dr Allen, Randall Welmore of Staples Inn, London, Mr William Grove (Testator's Secretary), George Valentine, Surgeon of H. M. Boyne, Capt. Thomas Lathom of H. M. Ship Boyne, Mrs Mary Shepheard and Mrs Sarah Stephens of Brooks Street near Brooks Market, London, Major General Paterson, Thomas Grimston, Esq., of Elton (York), Testator's lands in the County of York, etc., etc. York, Italy, Southampton.
