Copy or draft of an indenture, dated 11 November, 18 Edward IV, between Sir Thomas Howard, knight, and Elizabeth, his wife, late the wife of Sir Humphrey Bourgchere, knight, of the one part, and Sir William Sandys, knight, of the other part, witnessing that it is agreed that John, Sir William's son and heir apparent, shall marry Margaret, one of the daughters of Sir Humphrey and Elizabeth, and that Sir William shall convey lands of the yearly value of 50 marks to John lord Howard, Thomas Howard and Thomas Bourghchier, knights, John Clopton, Richard Southwell, James Hobart, Richard Fenys, lord Dacres, John Cheyne, Walter Hungerford, John Whiteheed, and Richard Jay, to pay the profits to Sir Thomas and Elizabeth for seven years for the support of John and Margaret and the expenses of their marriage, and afterwards to the use of John and Margaret and the heirs of John's body, without impeachment of waste unless the waste exceed 6l. 13s. 4d.; remainder to Sir William in fee; and Sir William covenants that within half a year of the birth of issue to John and Margaret, or of John's attaining the age of twenty-one years if no issue be then born, he will, if Margaret be then alive, convey lands to the value of 10 marks to her and John, as above; Sir William to receive all profits of court and feudal incidents; provided that if the marriage be not consummated or if Margaret die without issue or if she and her issue die in the lifetime of Sir William, the use of the premises shall be to Sir William and his heirs; and Sir William shall assure from the time of his death to John land worth 80l. if Margaret be then alive, and land worth 100l. after his own death and that of Margaret, his wife; in consideration of all which Sir Thomas and Elizabeth are to pay to Sir William 300l. at times specified.
