Volumes recording the issue of writs of the Court of Common Pleas connected with the process of outlawry, especially writs of exigi facias, allocatur exigent, proclamation and supersedeas, most of them made for the clerk of the supersedeas and exigenter. The three volumes which cover the period from 1821 to 1837 each have two separate sequences, one at either end. The larger records the issue of writs of exigent and proclamation. Each entry gives the title of the case, including the name of the defendant to be outlawed, the type of writ, its return day, and the name of the attorney. Many entries are annotated, where appropriate, with details of the outlawry and its reversal. The other sequence records the issue of writs of supersedeas. Each entry in the supersedeas section gives the name of the person on whose behalf the writ was issued, his opponent, the return day and the name of the attorney. |

The volumes record the issue of the writs connected with the process of outlawry, and must have been compiled for the clerk of the supersedeas and exigenter, who was responsible for the issue of writs of exigent, proclamation and supersedeas; earlier there had been two separate offices of exigenter and clerk of the supersedeas, but in this period they were held by the same man. The offices of exigenter and clerk of the supersedeas, and also that of clerk of the outlawries, were abolished by statute in 1837. |
