Prisons and Prisoners. Four letters concerning the new prison at Lewes [Sussex]. A letter from J Jebb, Inspector of Prisons, suggesting that an alteration should be made to the plans for the prison in order to reduce the expense. A letter from William Langridge, Clerk of the Peace for the County of Sussex, returning the plans for the erection of the new gaol at Lewes for reconsideration. A second letter from Jebb stating that the magistrates agree to reduce the size of the cells for males and requesting sanction of the new plans for the prison. A letter from Captain W Williams, Inspector of Prisons, stating that the proposed plan for the reduction of the size of the cells would be dangerous and inconvenient.
