Bay Islands correspondence between 1852 and 1854 is registered in Jamaica registers (CO 351) and then in the British Honduras registers (CO 348)

Administrative / biographical background:

The Bay Islands, occupied by Britain in 1839, were annexed and constituted a colony in 1852 with a governor representing the governor of Jamaica, and an elective assembly. In 1859 the Bay Islands were recognised by treaty as part of the republic of Honduras.
