This file was originally catalogued under more than one subject heading. These headings and details of this file, are as follows:

CRIMINAL: Rosa Emma Gooding. Twice convicted of obscene libel at the instigation of Edith Emily Swan, was paid £250 for wrongful imprisonment as an act of grace by H.M. Treasury. Swan was later convicted of a similar offence;

CRIMINAL CASES: GOODING, Rose Emma Convicted at Lewes on 9 December 1920 and 2 March 1921 for publishing defamatory libel and sentenced to 14 days imprisonment and 12 months imprisonment both sentences later being quashed by the Court of Criminal Appeal;

CRIMINAL CASES: SWAN, Edith Emily Convicted at Lewes on 19th July 1923 for publishing obscene libel and sentenced to 12 months' imprisonment.
