Description: Journal of His Majesty's Ship Arethusa by Mr Thomas Simpson, Surgeon, between 15 May 1805 and 13 June 1806 while the ship was in Europe and the West Indies. The journal takes the form of case by case accounts, with monthly memorandum of cases not recorded in detail, until April 1806. The final month of the Surgeon's engagement is summed up in the final two folios for lack of space. There is also an account of his relationship with Captain Brisbane following his arrest in April and Court Martial proceedings in May until he leaves the ship's company in June 1806.
