Folios 31-32: Surgeon's general Remarks. Diarrhoea made its appearance soon after the convicts embarked to a considerable extent and continued more or less troublesome throughout notwithstanding the extreme attention paid to cleanliness and ventilation and every care taken to keep the prison dry and comfortable. The few cases of scurvy manifested themselves in high Southern latitudes but soon yielded to the usual mode of treatment as fresh and nutritious diet lemon juice exercise. Several cases of debility from age and former habits of intemperance became objects of attention the whole of the voyage and others who never seemed to recover perfectly from the effects of the severe weather experienced soon after clearing the Channel. [Signed] G S Rutherford, surgeon and superintendant.
