Description:

Medical and surgical journal of Her Majesty's convict ship Kinnear between 31 May 1842 and 23 October 1842 by George J Fox, Surgeon Superintendent, during which time the said ship was conveying prisoners from Ireland to Hobart Town Van Diemen's Land.

Folios 2-6: A copy of the sick book.

Folios 7-17: Blank.

Folio 18: Nosological synopsis of the Kinnear's sick book kept during the period of the journal.

Folio 19: Surgeon's general remarks. Throughout the voyage of fifteen weeks no symptons of scurvy were apparent, a few boils on the lower extremities of some, however, occurred towards the end, but were quickly removed by a change of diet. The greater number were landed in a better state of health than on their reception on board.

Folios 20-21: Robert Taylor, aged 56, convict; case number 1; disease, pneumonia. Put on sick list, 1 August 1842. Discharged dead 4 August 1842.

Folios 21-22: Michael Hayes, aged 30, convict; case number 2; disease, dyspepsia. Put on sick list, 13 September 1842. Discharged 30 September 1842.

Folio 23: Patrick Hearn, aged 30, convict; case number 3; disease, catarrh. Put on sick list, 27 September 1842. Discharged 1 October 1842.

Folios 23-24: John Donelian, aged 26, convict; case number 4; disease, rheumatism. Put on sick list, 21 September 1842. Discharged 24 September 1842.

Folios 24-25: James McGreal, aged 27, convict: case number 5; disease, infected testicle. Put on sick list, 12 October 1842. Discharged 12 October 1842.

Folios 25-26: James O'Dowell, aged 24, convict; case number 6; disease, diarrhoea. Put on sick list, 3 October 1842. Discharged dead 10 October 1842.
