Description:

Medical and surgical journal of the Asia convict ship from 28 June 1823 to 18 January 1824 by William Evans, surgeon and superintendent during which time the said ship was conveying 150 male convicts from Woolwich to Hobart Town, Van Dieman's Land, New South Wales.

Folio 1: Evans (surgeon) joined the Asia on 28 June 1823 at Deptford. The guard embarked on 5 July 1823 consisting of one captain, one subaltern, one sergeant, two corporals, thirty men, five women and one child. On 15 July, 150 male convicts embarked on board from the Justitia hulk at Woolwich to be conveyed to Hobart Town.

Folio 2: Thomas Beresford, aged 26, convict; disease or hurt, enteritis. Put on sick list 17 August 1823 at Motherbank. Discharged 3 September 1823.

Folios 2-3: William Roberts, aged 24, convict; disease or hurt, epileptic fit. Put on sick list 12 September 1823 at sea. Died 4 October 1823.

Folios 3-4: Thomas Nicholls, aged 34, convict; disease or hurt, pyrexia. Put on sick list 18 September 1823 at sea. Died 9 October 1823.

Folios 4-5: Thomas Robinson, aged 29, guard; disease or hurt, excruciating pain in the head. Put on sick list 11 October 1823 at sea. Discharged 26 October 1823 to duty.
