Description:

1 item extracted from an unidentified piece now in the series HCA 32. Four plans and a list of ships, pasted on one sheet. No scale given for plans.(1) Chart of the Hooghli River, Bengal, India, from Hooghli to the river mouth, showing tributaries, soundings, shoals, forts and place-names. (2) List of ships, giving captains' names, and the number and calibre of guns. (3) Three sketch maps on one sheet, which is pasted to the backing sheet. Compass roses. (3a) Madagascar: Antongila Bay (in the north-east of the island, just north of 16°S): 'Baye Dantongil'. Rough chart showing a native village and an islet called Marosse. (3b) Senegal: rough chart of the coast from Cape Verde (now Cape Vert) to the island of Gorée, showing an anchorage in the vicinity of the present Dakar. (3c) Mozambique: rough chart showing the citadel of Mozambique, its island and bay, with soundings, anchorages, trees, rocks, and houses on the mainland shore.

Arrangement:

At the date of extraction, the parent piece bore the reference HCA/666; no record was made of the name of the ship from whose papers these maps were extracted. This piece and a number of other were subsequently transferred to the series HCA 32, where they were distributed alphabetically according to the names of the ships to which the papers related. Papers originally in HCA 30/666 related to: Les Aimables Marthes, L'Ardent, Le Benjamin, La Gorgonne, Le Hector, Le Mars, La Parfitte, Providence, St Charles and St François.
