Description:

1 item extracted from CO 5/8 (f 82). North America. Rough outline of the country from South Carolina to Quebec showing in particular the Vermont territory and the line of mountain ranges between the New England and Middle States and the disputed lands to the west. Showing place-names, rivers, boundaries. Compass indicator. The map is part of a larger sheet to which is also attached a note on the mountain range ('the everlasting hill') as a boundary between America and Canada, Vermont and Kentucky. The map illustrates an unsigned memorandum (CO 5/8, ff 76, 77) which contains articles of a proposed Treaty with the territory, with the purpose of establishing Vermont (and Kentucky) as 'buffer states'.
