The Joint Technical Warfare Committee was set-up following a minute dated 27 November 1943 by the Deputy Chief of the Imperial General Staff, and was composed of Assistant Chiefs of Staff and Scientific Advisers to the three services. The terms of reference were: (a) To co-ordinate and direct the technical study of such operational projects and problems as may be referred to them. (b) To report to the Chiefs of Staff when important inter-service technical studies were initiated by the committee, and to detail their progress and results. (c) To maintain close touch with the Joint Planning Staffs (JPS) on matters falling within the terms of reference of the committee. The first chairman was Rear Admiral W R Patterson, who was succeeded in March 1945 by Rear Admiral R D Oliver, with secretariat facilities provided by two members of the armed services. |
