Description:

A volume in original binding, with original brass corner pieces and parchment label in brass plate on back cover. (cf. Catalogue of Bindings, 1938 Centenary Exhibition). The C of Compotus on first folio is surmounted by a crown with Henricus Rex Octavus. In this is a shield of the royal arms, supported by an angel. Shield, red, blue and gold; figure, brown, green, pink and blue. On folio 33 the Account of the Office of the Kitchen, there is another illuminated shield and figure subject in the C of Compotus, colours as above, but larger and design different. No crown surmounting the C. On folio 74, in the C of Compotus, is an angel holding a shield with the St Alban's cross as arms. Accounts of all Bailiffs, Collectors, etc. of all Spiritualities and Temporalities of the Abbey of St Alban's in the King's hands by reason of the praemunire of Thomas (Wolsey), Cardinal, Archbishop of York, and in commendam Abbot of St Alban's, 21-22 Henry VIII, with the Account of the Receiver General, 21-22 Henry VIII. 87 folios
