Administrative / biographical background: |
The regional offices of the newly constituted Board of Trade Regional Organisation were established in 1945 and under the authority of the Controller they provided intelligence on all matters concerning the Board of Trade in their regions, largely relating to distribution of industry and export promotion, and carried out certain duties delegated from headquarters. The Controllers became part of the Ministry of Technology in 1966 but remained responsible to the Board of Trade for export services. In 1971 they became responsible to the Department of Trade and Industry, which initially appointed separate regional directors for industry and for export services, but later merged the two services. In 1974 the regional organisation became the responsibility of the Department of Industry. |
