Description:

Loose writs and recorda - 'Northern Circuit' Eyres

Various loose and miscellaneous writs and other material from counties within the so-called 'Northern' eyre circuit. Further material will be placed here as it is discovered, and it may be possible to return other membranes to the files from which they have become detached.

Part 1 comprises loose membranes from eyre files. Membrane 1 is a Cumberland writ returned to the 1279 Northumberland eyre, mm 2-5 are Westmorland and Nottinghamshire writs returned to the Yorkshire eyre of 1279-81, mm 6-7 relate to the Buckinghamshire eyre of 1286, and mm 8-18 to the Huntingdonshire eyre of 1286. Membrane 19 probably relates to the Dorset eyre of 1288, while mm 20-26 seemingly all relate to the Yorkshire eyre of 1293-4.

Part 2 predominantly comprises loose membranes from a recorda file relating to bench cases sent to the Yorkshire eyre of 1293-4. However, m 1 was probably returned to the Westmorland eyre of 1278-9, or possibly the Yorkshire eyre of 1279-81.
