Area Health Authorities were new bodies introduced under the National Health Service Reorganisation Act 1973. Their duties were directed by the Regional Health Authorities and included the establishment of Family Practitioner Committees. The Authorities were abolished as part of the 1982 reorganisation of the National Health Service, their functions being taken over by the Regional Health Authorities and Health Districts. |
