Administrative / biographical background: |
The Committee was set up in 1982 to fulfil the function of the Wales Advisory Body for Local Authority High Education (WABLAHE) to advise the Secretary of State for Wales on the management and funding of local authority higher and further education and teacher training. In 1988 following the Education Reform Bill the terms of reference for WABLAHE were changed with greater emphasis being put on planning and funding. The areas of responsibility covered by the Committee included planning exercises, funding of research activities, relations with Council for National Academic Awards, future strategy, speech therapy, Welsh language and approval of courses. The Committee became known as the Wales Advisory Body (or WAB). The WAB was wound up following the setting up of the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Further Education Funding Council for Wales in 1992. |
