Title: | Assizes: Norfolk and Home Circuits: Estreats |
Description: |
The estreats are draft and copy returns of fines, amercements, recognizances and issues forfeited and assessed at each assize session, which were extracted (estreated) from the records of the court. A typical estreat provides a list of persons fined, etc., at a particular assize session, giving the name, residence and occupation of the person, the nature of the offence, and the amount of the fine, etc. Most of these estreats belong to the Norfolk circuit, for the periods 1754-1830 and 1851-1872; but there are also three from the Home circuit, dated 1828, 1830 and 1839. All of the estreats relate to criminal, not civil, cases; and then only to the commission of gaol delivery. |
