Title: British Railways: London Midland Region: General Manager's Closure of Lines Files
Description:

British Railways London Midland Region files, resulting from the 'Beeching report' of 1963, studying particular lines and sections to effect rationalisation of services and assets. The files include reports of the facilities on the lines and their costs, passenger usage and alternative rail and bus services. They may also contain information concerning the subsequent history of the installations and land after closure, along with matters about the replacement bus services. Lines closed before the Beeching report are not included.

Some lines had been subject to earlier correspondence concerning their futures and, in some cases, these papers have been included in the files. Therefore, some of the starting dates are before 1963 and, sometimes, predate the nationalisation of the railways.
