The contents of these close rolls (otherwise in PL 2) are mainly executive in nature, such as writs and other orders to the escheator, sheriff and other officers of the county. John of Gaunt's roll also includes orders to the Barons of the Palatinate of Exchequer. Fines for writs and recognizances for debt were also enrolled.
