Title: CHINA
Description:

Most of these reports consist of intelligence on the economic, political and military situation in Free China, Japan and Japanese-occupied territories and provide an interesting reflection of the general situation in China prior to the post-war redirection of the Chinese communists' effort against their own government. Information on Special Operations Executive personnel and activity is scarce; and there are a number of files on Canadian Chinese recruits.

Date: 1940-1946
Administrative / biographical background:

UK, US and Chinese policy in the Chinese war zone prevented SOE (Special Operations Executive) undertaking its normal role behind enemy lines. Para-military operations were few. The main function of SOE in China was the collection of intelligence, for which a joint Sino-British intelligence network was set up.
