Although the Siamese government was initially at war with Britain, SOE (Special Operations Executive) attempted to build up contact with the anti-Japanese Free Siam Movement. Preparations for guerrilla war went ahead in 1944 but were inhibited by Foreign Office suspicion of the independence movement.
