The Royal Air Force Physiological Laboratory was established by the Flying Personnel Research Committee at the RAE Farnborough in 1939. In 1945 it was renamed the Royal Air Force Institute of Aviation Medicine. The Institute is primarily concerned with research but it also has a responsibility for specialist training.
