Administrative / biographical background:

RAF Reserve (later Home) Command was formed on 1 February 1939 and disbanded on 27 May 1940. It was re-formed on 20 May 1946, with Headquarters at RAF White Waltham, Maidenhead, Berkshire, and was re-named Home Command during August 1950. Its principal task was to train and maintain the pre-service units for which the RAF was responsible - the University Air Squadrons, RAF sections of the Combined Cadet Forces at schools, and the Air Training Corps. It was also responsible for RAF Recruiting Centres throughout the UK and for the administration of many other RAF units - hospitals, the Staff College and the Record Office, movement and police units. Home Command was disbanded on 31 March 1959.
