The planning and organisation for the British air element in Operation Torch, the allied invasion of North Africa in November 1942, was carried out in 333 group, later Eastern Air Command, under the command of Air Marshal Sir William Welsh.

Operation Cackle, the movement of No. 500 (General Reconnaissance) squadron of Hudson aircraft to the operational area to support the landings, formed part of the planning.
