The Holton Heath Factory, near Poole in Dorset, was opened in 1916 as an independent means of production of high grade propellants for Naval shells. The factory was involved in later rocket propellants but ceased production in 1957 with most of its work having being taken over by the Caerwent Cordite Factory. However, the Admiralty Materials Laboratory, which was formed in 1947, retained a presence on the site.
