Description: |
Anthony BLUNT: British. BLUNT was recruited by the Russian Intelligence Services (RIS) to talent spot when he was a student and then a don at Cambridge University during the 1930s. He was a member of the Cambridge Five ring of spies. Between 1940 and 1945 he worked for MI5. During this time he passed significant quantities of secret intelligence to the RIS. An art historian of renown, he later became Keeper of the King's Pictures. In this role he had no access to secret information but in 1951 he helped two of his Cambridge Five friends, Guy BURGESS and Donald MACLEAN, defect to Moscow. In 1964 he confessed his espionage activities and was given immunity from prosecution in exchange for information about his fellow RIS agents |
