This committee was first launched on 26 November 1642, when in compliance with an order of 14 November, the Lord Mayor and sheriffs of London appointed a committee representative of all the city wards to hold court at Weavers' Hall in Basinghall Street, and collect subscriptions for the cause of the Parliament by monthly payments from 1 December. |
