Administrative / biographical background:

UK Financial Investments Limited (UKFI), wholly owned by the Government, was established in November 2008 to manage the Government's investments in financial institutions including the Royal Bank of Scotland, Lloyds TSB/Halifax Bank of Scotland (Lloyds Banking Group), Northern Rock, and Bradford and Bingley.

The company’s activities are governed by its Board, which is accountable to the Chancellor of the Exchequer and, through the Chancellor, to Parliament. Membership of the UKFI Board comprises a private sector chairperson, non-executive private sector members, a chief executive and senior Government officials. UKFI is a Companies Act Company, with HM Treasury as its sole shareholder.
