Administrative / biographical background:

The Bologna Process was a major reform created with the aim to create a European Higher Education Area. It is named after the place it was proposed, the University of Bologna in Italy, with the signing in 1999 of the 'Bologna Declaration' by Ministers of Education from 29 European countries, with the UK signatory being Baroness Blackstone, Minister for Higher Education. Through specific objectives, the Bologna Process is working towards developing a coherent European higher education space to foster employability and mobility in Europe. It also aims to increase the competitiveness of European higher education in the world.

The UK provided a Secretariat to the Bologna Follow Up Group and its Board for the two year period up to 30 June 2007, although the first snapshot of this website is dated 2010.
