Administrative / biographical background: |
Following the Cabinet reshuffle in July 1995 the Office of Science and Technology (OST) was transferred from the Cabinet Office's Office of Public Service and Science (OPSS) to the Department of Trade and Industry. The Foresight Directorate under the Office of Science and Technology were responsible for the development and implementation of various Foresight Programmes. The Foresight projects gave evidence to policymakers to help them create policies that are more resilient to the future. This approach originated from the Science, Engineering, and Technology (SET) White Paper, which explored how to improve partnerships between public and private sectors. Foresight project teams work with government departments, experts and academics to identify where new or emerging science can inform policy. |
