Administrative / biographical background: |
Following the merger of the Public Record Office and the Historical Manuscripts Commission in 2003, the Advisory Council on Public Records (first appointed by the Lord Chancellor in 1959) became the Advisory Council on National Records and Archives. The Council advises the Lord Chancellor on public access to records and the care of archives and manuscripts, including the allocation of historical papers accepted against tax. |
