Folios 127-150. Instructions to Captain Thomas Thompson of the Captivity hulk in Portsmouth Harbour drawn up by Aaron Graham [Inspector of Convicts]. The instructions include the keeping of records and a requirement for a daily inspection of each part of the hulk for cleanliness and hygiene; the scheme of diet and arrangements for ensuring the quality of provisions; the provision of work on shore for all fit prisoners; daily visits by the surgeon and provision for any convicts who become ill; regular reports on the conduct of both officers and convicts; and provision for the 6 convicts who have behaved best and have served half of their time to be referred to the Secretary of State. |
