The independent Gambling Review Body was appointed by HM Government in 2000 and was tasked with devising proposals for a new legislative framework for gambling.

Prior to 2001 the Home Office was responsible for gambling matters, however, following the general election in June 2001 the responsibility was transferred to the Department for Culture, Media and Sport.
