Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Sabine formerly Countess of Harcourt (master Edward Davies).

Nationality: American or British.

History: moored at Little Mary's River, East Florida (Spanish territory); taken on 24 August 1814 as a British ship by the American privateer Sabine and carried into St Mary, Georgia, USA where condemned as lawful prize to the American captor; recaptured 20 January 1815 by several boats or barges under orders of Rear Admiral Cockburn, who had taken St Mary's, Florida, and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: James Strachan Glennie merchant of London on behalf of the King of Spain, as having been seized within Spanish territory.

Rear Admiral Cockburn and HMPG; and Archibald Sheddon of Bermuda, claimant of the ship on behalf of former British owners.
