Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Antonio (master Geronimo Bastea).

Nationality: Spanish.

History: bound from New Haven, Connecticut to Puerto Rico, laden with flour, butter, lard, beef, pork etc; taken on 12 October 1813 by the privateer Matchless (Robert Wilson commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: Jose Ballaster, the supercargo for the ship on behalf of Manuel Nadale, Simon Oreas and himself, Spanish subjects; and for the cargo on behalf of the aforesaid and other Spanish subjects.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 19 December 1818 (folios 430-450) [no folios 429, 435, 448].

Decision: having heard further proofs, 'took time to deliberate' [sic].
