Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of the Bahamas.

Captured ship: Roxana (master Samuel De La Mater).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from New York to Havana, laden with lumber, flour, cheese, hams, hoops, cod fish, shooks etc; taken on 3 March 1815 by the privateeer Java (John Pinder commanding), and brought into Nassau.

Appellant: The captor.

The master on behalf of John S Crary, Reuben Bromley, Peter Crary junior, Benjamin F Bablock, William Vandervort, Frederick Sheldon, John Haggerty, David Austin, William Age, Henry Coit, Gamaliel Smith, William Cairns, Rufus Lord and Frederick A Tracy, American merchants of New York.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 19 December 1818 (folios 422-428).
