Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Emily (master Andrew Scott).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Baltimore to Lisbon, laden with flour, but was stopped by HMS San Domingo on 6 February 1813 because of the blockade of the Chesapeake Bay, and lay in Norfolk, Virginia until June, when approached the British squadron for information and was seized by them on 12 June 1813, and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: The Crown and HMPG.

The master for the ship and cargo as American porperty protected by a British licence.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 9 May 1818 (folios 329-338).

Decision: against the appeal.
