Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Barbados.

Captured ship: Calmar otherwise Rising States (master John Norby).

Nationality: Swedish.

History: bound from Boston to Bermuda, laden with flour, beef, pork, salt fish, bacon, lard to be delivered to the military under licence (allegedly altered) from HM Consul in New York; seized on 7 March 1813 by the port authority of St Pierre, Martinique.

Appellant: The master for the ship and cargo under a licence from Sir John Borlase Warren.

Respondent: Symonds Bridgwater and George Suffield, searcher or waiters in the port of St Pierre, Martinique, seizors of the ship and cargo, and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 18 March 1818 (folios 231-243).

Decision: against the appeal.
