Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Christiana (master Peter Erickson).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Portland, Maine to Antigua, laden with staves, shooks, boards and hoops; taken on 6 March 1813 by the privateer Viper (Daniel Allers commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: Benjamin Stanwood supercargo for the ship and cargo on behalf of James Dearing and John Dicks, American merchants of Portland, under a licence from the governor of the Leeward Islands.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 18 March 1818 (folios 219-230) [no folio 222].

Decision: against the appeal.
