Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Governor Kindelan (master Salvador Sabate).

Nationality: Spanish.

History: bound from Amelia Island to Liverpool, laden with cotton and deer skins; taken on 12 February 1815 by HMS Lacedaemonian (Samuel Jackson commanding), and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: The captor and others, a squadron of HM ships in a blockade and HMPG.

Respondent: George Iriving merchant of London on behalf of John George Smedburg of Stockholm for part of the cargo as Swedish property; and the master, on behalf of Enrique Yonge of Amelia Island and other Spanish subjects.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 14 March 1818 (folios 215-218) [no folio 214].

Decision: [in response to the claims of the Crown and HMPG] further proofs sufficient, goods to be restored to George Irving.
