Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Barbados. Captured ship: Mars (master Evan Owen). Nationality: American. History: originally a British ship bound from Mogador to London, laden with skins, herbs, almonds, lead etc; taken in August 1814 by an American ship, but retaken on 1 September 1814 by HMS La Pique (Hon Anthony Maitland commanding), and brought into Barbados. Appellant: Joseph Williams ship agent of London. Respondent: The captor and HMPG. Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 17 December 1817 (folios 128-134). Decision: for the appeal; no more than 1/8th of the cargo is due for salvage. Folios 128-129: case on behalf of the appellant; Folio 133: decree; Folios 130-133: appendix
