Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Newfoundland.

Captured ship: Neptune (master Pierre Olivier Salot).

Nationality: French.

History: bound from Havre de Grace via Rochelle to the Newfoundland fishing banks, laden with salt and 8053 cod fish; taken on 25 July 1815 by HMS Pike (David Buchan commanding), and brought into St John's, Newfoundland.

Appellant: James Frederick Perrin of Clausie, Perrin and Bodmin, merchants of London, for the ship and fish on behalf of Daniel Ancel of Le Havre, French subject, protected by an Order in Council.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 10 December 1817 (folios 38-48) [no folios 42, 49].

Decision: ship and cargo to be restored as claimed, subject to payment of the captor's expenses.
