Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Belle de Bordeaux (master Francois Brian).

Nationality: French.

History: a slave trader, bound from Amris, Angola to St Pierre, Guadeloupe, laden with 513 enslaved people, elephants' teeth [ivory] etc; taken on 6 September 1815 by HMS Barbados brig (John Fleming commanding) and HMS Columbine sloop (D Chads commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: The master for Le Febure, merchant of Bordeaux.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 17 July 1817 (folios 517-528).

Decision: for the appeal, ship and cargo protected by HM Order in Council 21 July 1815.
