Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Hermione (master Francois Robert Leguilinel Descaliers).

Nationality: French.

History: a slave trader, bound from Malamba, Angola to Guadeloupe, laden with 211 enslaved people (117 when the ship sailed of whom 6 died, and a further 111 captured), dry goods, brandy, muskets and pewter; taken on 27 September 1815 by HMS Chanticleer (George Tupman commanding), and brought into St John's, Antigua.

Appellant: The master for the ship and cargo on behalf of Messrs Delarbre and Co of L'Havre.

Respondent: The captor and The Crown.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 17 July 1817 (folios 506-516).

Decision: for the appeal, ship and cargo protected by HM Order in Council 21 July 1815.
