Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Antigua.

Captured ship: Frederick (master John Frederick Simon Meyer).

Nationality: Russian.

History: bound from London via the Isle of Mayo to St Bartholomew, laden allum, copperas, dry goods and clothes; taken on 1 August 1813 by the privateer Matchless (Robert Wilson commanding), and brought into Antigua.

Appellant: The master and Amasa Thayer, for the ship and cargo as property of Charles Amburger Russian merchant of Archangel; and Charles Tottie, merchant of London and Swedish consul (as appellant and intervener), for the ship and cargo as having been seized in Swedish territory.

Respondent: The captor.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 27 March 1817 (folios 292-296).

Decision: further proof insufficient, ship and cargo condemend as lawful prize to the captor.
