Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Tortola.

Captured ship: Mary (master Isaac Isaacs).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from La Guiara to Cumana (with a letter of marque to cruise against Britain), laden with coffee, cocoa, hides, iron and indigo, and property of the passengers, refugee patriots, evacuating the city because of Spanish insurgents; taken in the harbour of La Guiara on 7 July 1814 by HMS Heron (George Luke commanding), and brought into St Thomas.

Appellant: The captor and HMPG.

William George Crabb and William Rogers Isaacs merchants of Tortola, on behalf of the government of Venezuela.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 16 January 1817 (folios 181-195).

Decision: ship and cargo condemned as lawful prize.
