Description:

Printed prize appeal from the High Court of Admiralty.

Captured ship: Hunter (master William M Rogers).

Nationality: American.

History: bound from Canton to Boston, laden with tea, nankeens and alum; taken on 18 March 1814 by HMS Doris (Robert O'Brien commanding), and brought into Great Ladrone, Macao, Madras, and finally London in Februry 1815.

Appellant: Samuel Williams of London merchant, on behalf of Houqua [or Howqua] of Canton, a subject of the Emperor of China, for the greater part of the cargo.

Respondent: The captor and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 16 January 1817 (folios 129-143).

Decision: against the appeal.
