Description:

Printed prize appeal from the Vice-Admiralty Court of Bermuda.

Captured ship: Amphitrite brig (master Carl Frederick Warland).

Nationality: Swedish.

History: bound from St Pierre, Martinique to St Bartholomew and intended for New Haven or Boston, laden with molasses (under licence from the Governor of Martinique); taken on 27 January 1814 by HMS Morgiana (David Scott esq commanding) in sight of HMS la Pique and HMS Recruit (George R Pechell commanding), and brought into Bermuda.

Appellant: 1) The master and John Hughes supercargo for the ship and cargo on behalf of William Israel of St Bartholomew, Swedish subject.

Respondent: The captors Scott and Pechell and HMPG.

Bound printed appeal with manuscript decree of 27 June 1816 (folios 483-503) [no folio 488].

Decision: ship and cargo (or value) to be restored as claimed, subject to payment of the captor's expenses.
